Streaker’s award winning 585SF and SF Tournament series have proven very popular with fishermen over the years. These first class sport fishing cuddy cabs are now regularly appearing on the used boat market.

The success of the 585SF can be put down to a combination of good design, competitive pricing, and Streaker’s policy of upgrading its models every few years. In essence, the 585 Sports Fisherman is a traditional fibreglass cuddy cabin. The boat has a short, but high cuddy cabin, stretching back to large rear cockpit.

On the used boat market, you'll find there are several distinctly different models of the 585 Sports fisherman. The first model, released in 1989, was acclaimed for its great ride, excellent stability, and its large, uncluttered rear cockpit. Although this craft won the Boat Of The Year Award, there was room for improvement - particularly in the area of fishing fit out. These issues were addressed with the release of the Mk2 model in 1993.

In the Mk2 model the gunwales were pushed out to create more interior cockpit space. The coamings are also wider and flatter than in the Mk1 model, and the dash was enlarged.

Late in 1993, Streaker introduced the impressive 585SF Tournament. This upgrade model had a twin seat box set up at the helm (incorporating a 58 litre live bait tank, storage areas, and aft facing squab seats), a standard cutting board/workbench, a side pocket rod storage rack, rocket launcher, and more.

In 1996, Streaker dropped the 585 Sports Fishermen. It was replaced with a model called the Longreach. More basic in fit out, the Longreach was targeted at buyers with little interest in fishing.

In 1999, and then in 2002, Streaker continued its policy of upgrading its boats. This proved rewarding for the company because it won the 2000 AMIF Fishing Boat of The Year award for the  Mk3 version of the 585SF Tournament. This model, and the 2002 Mk4 model, are noticeably different to the two early boats because they have a rounded, more modern deck shape.

While the cabin on the various 585 Streaker models has changed dramatically over the years, the hulls are virtually identical. The 585 hull has a very fine, sharply angled forefoot and entry. This provides a very soft ride when running into choppy water. The hull vee does moderate however, so that stability at rest is also very good.

The 585 series is rated for extra long shaft outboards up to 200 hp. Best power is in the 140 - 150 hp range. With a single 150 hp 2-stroke, the boats are quick off the mark and accelerate to a speed of 37 knots.
